Accounting Manager, 12-Month Contract at BlackBerry

BlackBerry is hiring an Accounting Manager for a 12-month contract supporting its NetSuite ERP reimplementation. The onsite Waterloo role covers close activities, general ledger accounting, controls, data migration, and accounting operations.

Description

  • Prepare, review, and approve journal entries covering accruals, reclassifications, fixed assets, intangible assets, and other accounting adjustments
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
  • Analyse balance sheet and general ledger accounts, including fixed asset, lease, and intangible asset continuity schedules
  • Investigate unusual balances, fluctuations, reconciling items, and inconsistencies in accounting data
  • Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX controls, and internal accounting policies
  • Contribute to the NetSuite ERP reimplementation by gathering requirements, coordinating stakeholder input, tracking issues, and supporting project deliverables
  • Assist with data cleansing, migration, and validation, including accounting data reviews, mappings, reconciliations, financial statement integrations, and reporting outputs
  • Resolve accounting and systems issues by determining root causes and recommending practical solutions
  • Collaborate with Corporate Accounting and Accounting Operations on process improvements, ERP activities, and special projects

Requirements

  • Proven ability to independently manage complex general ledger activities, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, reconciliations, fixed assets, and intangible assets
  • Ability to take ownership of complex or unclear accounting matters, determine appropriate treatments or resolutions, and communicate recommendations clearly
  • Substantial experience leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Ability to analyse balance sheet accounts and continuity schedules, investigate unusual balances and reconciling items, identify root causes, and drive resolution
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience operating in an environment governed by SOX controls
  • Practical experience with NetSuite ERP
  • Advanced working capability in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to detect accounting, process, and data issues, evaluate their impact, and propose workable solutions
  • Ability to review colleagues’ work and provide constructive challenge where appropriate
  • Experience collaborating across Accounting, Finance, and other functions
  • Ability to work independently in a changing environment, prioritise competing deliverables, apply sound judgement, and escalate material risks appropriately
  • Professional accounting designation, such as CPA Canada or U.S. CPA
  • Experience contributing to an ERP implementation or reimplementation
  • Hands-on experience with financial data migration, cleansing, mapping, system testing, reconciliation, and validation
  • Experience supporting accounting process improvement, standardisation, or finance transformation initiatives
