  • Guide and expand the billing engineering team.
  • Set the roadmap for billing systems, covering usage metering, invoicing, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
  • Improve billing accuracy and reliability through monitoring, reconciliation, and testing.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience to align priorities with pricing, reporting, and customer needs.
  • Recruit and develop engineers as the team grows.
  • Choose architectures that balance long-term billing platform investment with near-term pricing launches and fixes.
  • Establish performance management and career development practices for a team that includes senior individual contributors.
  • Lead systems for capturing usage, processing data pipelines, connecting to third-party billing platforms, and generating accurate invoices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead people.
  • Able to review code, create prototypes, and contribute directly when useful.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting, and learning.
  • Experience building and scaling engineering teams, ideally growing a small group into a larger organization.
  • Experience managing engineers, including senior and staff-level team members, and handling hiring and performance management.
  • Practical experience with usage-based billing, payments, or other revenue-critical systems.
  • Experience with third-party billing services such as Orb, Metronome, or Stripe, or comparable platforms.
  • Able to work closely with Finance, Product, and Customer Experience.
  • Sound business judgment linking engineering investment to billing accuracy, revenue, and customer trust.
  • Experience working in a fast-moving environment.
  • Preferred: experience leading a billing platform migration or pricing model change.
  • Preferred: familiarity with financial reconciliation and reporting processes.
  • Preferred: knowledge of distributed systems or event-driven architectures.
  • Preferred: experience building developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or DevTools.
  • Generally, new visa sponsorship is unavailable. Existing visa transfers may be sponsored at Render’s discretion and require business authorization.
