- Edit daily news, feature, long-form, social media, video, and graphics copy
- Edit newsletters produced for Local Service Expansion bureaus
- Respond to breaking news under tight deadlines
- Apply inclusive language and framing that reflects British Columbians’ varied experiences
- Maintain balanced coverage aligned with CBC style and Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Assemble story packages using photos, video, graphics, and embedded content
- Keep the digital news lineup focused on the day’s leading stories and priorities
- Work with writers and producers on assignments while incorporating under-represented perspectives
- Spot editorial gaps and provide clear guidance to strengthen stories and their presentation
- Edit and deliver coverage ranging from breaking news to long-form features across CBC digital and social channels
- Support journalism throughout British Columbia and Local Service Expansion reporters in western Canada
- Exercise independent editorial judgment while adapting to changing visual storytelling tools
आवश्यकताएँ
- Professional-level English reading, speaking, and writing skills
- Sound news judgment and strong critical-thinking ability
- Understanding of legal and ethical considerations in journalism
- Demonstrated ability to package online news stories in compelling, innovative formats
- Ability to handle substantial volumes of rapidly changing information
- Strong headline-writing ability
- Effective communication skills
- Availability to work flexible weekday and weekend hours
- University degree or equivalent qualification
- Preferred: at least three years of editing experience at a print or digital publication
- Content management system experience is an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian Press style is an asset
- Social media experience, including creating social content, is an asset
- Candidates may be required to complete skills and knowledge assessments
- Successful candidates must complete a mandatory criminal record check, and additional background checks may apply
