Vehicle Operational Safety and Compliance Engineer II – Palo Alto Hybrid
Support autonomous vehicle testing and deployment through operational risk assessment, safety compliance reviews, and readiness activities. Help Woven by Toyota make evidence-based decisions that strengthen vehicle safety and operational controls.
Tavsif
- Perform vehicle-operations safety patrols, inspections, and assessments to uncover hazards, process weaknesses, and operational risks
- Review safety release cases, operational safety cases, and supporting evidence to assess readiness and inform risk-acceptance decisions
- Help project teams identify and meet applicable safety and regulatory obligations
- Use operational metrics, incident patterns, audit results, and safety-performance data to support risk-based decisions
- Assess operational risks associated with vehicle testing, deployments, route changes, environmental conditions, and procedural updates
- Identify hazards, assess their severity and likelihood, and recommend appropriate mitigations and controls
- Work with engineering, operations, and safety teams to document and maintain operational assumptions, constraints, and mitigations
- Track, investigate, and follow up on audit findings, safety issues, incidents, and corrective actions
- Assist with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions
- Help create, assess, and refine operational processes and procedures that support QMS requirements and safety objectives
- Monitor adherence to internal and external safety standards and operating procedures
- Maintain safety records, risk registers, readiness documentation, audit materials, and safety assessment reports
- Strengthen proactive safety practices through operational guidance, risk awareness, and continuous improvement
Talablar
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, operations management, quality, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- At least five years of experience in vehicle operations, fleet safety, autonomous vehicle operations, transportation safety, manufacturing safety, or a comparable operational setting
- Demonstrated experience performing operational risk assessments and applying mitigation strategies
- Knowledge of U.S. ADAS and autonomous-driving vehicle safety regulations and relevant industry standards
- Experience using safety metrics, operational trends, or risk analysis to guide operational decisions
- Understanding of mission constraints, operational design domains, or safety limitations in vehicle testing and deployment environments
- Familiarity with audits, corrective actions, and continuous-improvement practices
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-moving operational environment
- Familiarity with safety cases, safety assurance methods, operational safety evaluations, or functional safety principles
- Experience working with Safety Management Systems
- Knowledge of ISO standards, functional safety, or SOTIF principles
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and process or procedure development
- Experience supporting operational readiness reviews, safety validation, or safety governance boards
- Proficiency with reporting, documentation, data-analysis, and risk-tracking tools
