Surety Claims Counsel (Remote, United States)
Manage complex contract and commercial surety claims while providing legal guidance to Skyward Surety. Support underwriting, litigation, training, and legal research across multiple jurisdictions.
Tavsif
- Independently manage complex contract and commercial surety bond claims across multiple jurisdictions
- Engage and oversee external surety claims counsel and supporting resources
- Establish reserves while managing claim-related costs and expenses
- Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and trials when required
- Prepare claim reports for underwriting teams and management
- Help create and update surety claims and underwriting forms and documentation
- Support surety transactions by drafting indemnity and collateral agreements, reviewing bond forms, and preparing manuscript language
- Create legal reference materials and training resources for Skyward Surety
- Deliver training for surety underwriters and designated company employees
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate legal developments affecting the surety sector
- Foster accountability, individual ownership, and transparent communication
- Uphold fair and ethical business policies and practices
- Complete additional responsibilities as assigned
Talablar
- At least two years of experience handling surety bond claims
- J.D. from an American Bar Association-accredited law school
- State claims adjuster licensing is strongly preferred
- Prior in-house experience within an insurance company’s surety claims department is preferred
- Membership in ABA, TIPS, or FSLC is an advantage
- Demonstrated expertise in surety claims
- Sound legal judgment combined with business acumen
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced remote setting
