Senior SQL Server and Cloud Database Administrator – Virginia Hybrid Contract
Expert database administrator supporting VDOT’s tolling environment across SQL Server and cloud platforms. The role covers administration, performance tuning, migrations, and high-availability operations.
Descriere
- Support VDOT’s tolling environment
- Administer, monitor, tune, patch, and migrate SQL Server and cloud databases
- Maintain database uptime, performance, and availability
- Investigate and resolve deadlocks, blocking, and performance problems with Extended Events, Query Store, and wait statistics
- Install, upgrade, patch, and migrate SQL Server instances, including SQL Server 2012 to 2019 upgrades
- Tune very large databases exceeding 2 TB and optimize indexes to reduce resource contention
- Configure and maintain clustering, mirroring, and high-availability environments
- Develop, troubleshoot, and optimize T-SQL
- Provide support for SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS
- Work with Azure and other cloud-based data platforms
- Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to resolve production issues
- Participate in help desk and operational rotation support
Cerințe
- Must be based in Virginia
- Previous experience supporting state or federal clients
- At least 6 years of expert-level Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience upgrading E-ZPass Virginia tolling environments from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2019
- Strong background in clustering, mirroring, high availability, and very large databases exceeding 2 TB
- Proficiency with T-SQL, Extended Events, Query Store, DMA, and Query Tuning Assistant
- At least 1 year of experience with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks; a relevant certification may substitute
- Experience supporting SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, and Windows platforms
- Understanding of data modeling principles
- Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
