- Oversee structural engineering design and construction for new correctional facilities.
- Review consultant engineering documents for completeness, constructability, code compliance, and technical adequacy.
- Assess structural framing, building envelopes, foundations, retaining structures, and related components.
- Coordinate structural design across civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and security teams.
- Recommend structural systems and materials, addressing seismic conditions, wind loads, and foundation integration.
- Provide technical authority on complex structural issues affecting facility safety, construction, and operations.
- Develop policies, standards, design criteria, and structural guidance for FBOP construction programs.
- Contribute to Value Engineering workshops.
- Review contractor RFIs, change orders, claims, and contract modifications related to structural work.
- Assess proposed project sites from a technical perspective.
- Take part in site inspections and construction observations.
- Support construction cost estimates and assessments of structural costs.
- Serve on technical evaluation panels for Architect/Engineer and Construction Management procurements.
- Provide engineering support for contract negotiations, construction administration, and dispute resolution.
- Help develop and maintain engineering documentation, standards, technical files, and project records.
- Join virtual design reviews and respond to time-sensitive technical comment cycles.
Cerințe
- Hold an RA or PE certification.
- Have at least 10 years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience with commercial, institutional, industrial, or federal facilities.
- Have experience reviewing structural designs prepared by external engineering firms.
- Be able to obtain and maintain DOJ/BOP suitability and facility access.
- Apply advanced civil engineering principles and practices, along with knowledge of related architectural and engineering disciplines.
- Understand construction methods and techniques.
- Understand planning and engineering issues.
- Know site and building materials, utility systems, and construction and installation techniques.
- Read and interpret construction documents, architectural and engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project cost estimates.
- Understand federal and agency regulations and environmental concerns.
- Be familiar with building, fire, and life safety codes.
- Have computer-aided drafting and freehand technical drafting skills.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, and organize reports and correspondence.
- Organize and conduct conferences, meetings, and contract negotiations.
- Use word processing, project management, and scheduling software, as well as complex integrated spreadsheets.
