Senior Data Platform Administrator at AutoNation (US Remote)
Lead reliability, security, automation, and modernization across AutoNation’s database platforms. Support cloud data, analytics, replication, and disaster recovery strategy for the automotive retailer.

- Set reliability and operational standards across SQL Server, Azure SQL, AWS Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL, RDS, DynamoDB, Snowflake, and Delphix.
- Establish service level objectives, capacity planning practices, and cloud database cost governance.
- Lead database migrations and modernization, including cloud transitions, upgrades, engine consolidations, and platform retirements.
- Design multi-region high availability and cross-cloud disaster recovery for tier-one workloads.
- Optimize cloud database costs through right-sizing, reserved capacity, workload management, and query consolidation.
- Set practices for performance tuning, troubleshooting, and incident response.
- Automate database operations with PowerShell, Python, and schema migration tools.
- Manage replication topologies using HVR, AWS DMS, Meltano, and SQL Server native replication.
- Administer Delphix, covering engine sizing, dSource strategy, masking design, capacity planning, and API automation.
- Modernize legacy Microsoft BI workloads, including SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and SSMDS.
- Manage Snowflake architecture, including warehouse strategy, role-based access control, cost governance, resource monitors, and data sharing.
- Set database observability standards using AppDynamics, DataDog, DBADash, and custom monitoring.
- Manage database security, including encryption, access governance, audit logging, and vulnerability management.
- Lead implementation of compliance controls for SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or equivalent frameworks.
- Work with security teams on system hardening, secrets management, and incident response.
- Mentor administrators, maintain onboarding curriculum, and develop skills plans.
- Lead incident postmortems and drive structural improvements.
- Partner with data engineering, application engineering, and DevOps teams on cross-functional work.
- Assess emerging technologies and deliver recommendations and proof-of-concept implementations.

- At least six years of database administration across multiple platforms, including substantial senior individual contributor experience.
- Expert SQL Server engineering skills, including FCI, Always-On Availability Groups, Extended Events, Query Store, advanced performance tuning, In-Memory OLTP, and Resource Governor.
- Production experience with SQL Server and at least two cloud-native databases among Aurora MySQL or PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, and DynamoDB.
- A track record leading production-scale database migrations or modernization initiatives; experience with environments larger than 10 TB is preferred.
- Advanced performance tuning across OLTP and operational analytics workloads, including execution plan internals, storage engine behavior, and concurrency control.
- Operational Snowflake expertise, including warehouse architecture, RBAC design, and cost governance.
- Hands-on Delphix expertise at the architectural level.
- Operational experience with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS (Tabular and Multidimensional), and SSMDS.
- Production replication and CDC experience with HVR, AWS DMS, Meltano, or SQL Server native replication.
- Strong PowerShell and Python scripting and automation skills.
- Working knowledge of Terraform, CloudFormation, or comparable infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Demonstrated team-level mentorship and standards-setting experience.
- Working knowledge of SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or comparable compliance frameworks.
- Ability to shape architecture direction and engineering strategy across teams.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future company visa sponsorship.
- Preferred: multi-region or multi-cloud disaster recovery architecture experience; Kubernetes-hosted database workloads or operators; public technical community involvement; regulated industry experience; Delta Lake or Iceberg; Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
