Geomatics Officer, Archaeological Survey

Carry out archaeological field surveys and manage survey data, GIS and CAD work for Cotswold Archaeology projects. The role includes equipment management, data quality checks and support for staff training.

Aprašymas

  • Prepare sites and carry out digital field surveys safely, capturing data and checking its quality.
  • Configure, maintain and secure field survey equipment.
  • Check survey data and digitised records throughout their creation, ensuring the final outputs are fit for purpose.
  • Conduct field surveys and other on-site data collection as needed.
  • Digitise site drawings and process and present archaeological data with CAD, GIS or other geospatial tools.
  • Use ESRI tools, especially ArcGIS Pro, to process and query data and publish GIS and web map services.
  • Help organise and deliver staff training in survey, GIS and CAD.
  • Arrange equipment hire, raise purchase orders and liaise with external hire companies.
  • Help allocate survey instruments to staff and projects.
  • Contribute to complex projects and their quality assurance.
  • Take part in planning fieldwork schedules.
  • Develop effective working relationships with fieldwork, geomatics, support and administrative colleagues, and clients.
  • Follow organisational policies and fire, health and safety, risk assessment and safe working requirements.

Reikalavimai

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in archaeology or a related subject.
  • Sufficient experience working as a field archaeologist on evaluations, watching briefs and excavations.
  • Strong understanding of archaeological survey principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of ESRI software, particularly proficiency with ArcGIS Pro.
  • A methodical approach to work and meeting deadlines.
  • Considerable experience surveying archaeological sites with GNSS and total station instruments, preferably Leica.
  • Experience handling and processing field survey data.
  • Ability to clearly describe observations and interpretations from archaeological survey work.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Commitment to professional archaeological standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for fieldwork, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Desirable: experience teaching, training or mentoring.
  • Desirable: experience contributing to project reports, publications, research or outreach projects.
  • Desirable: experience in photography and photogrammetry.
  • Desirable: experience surveying archaeological buildings and earthworks.
  • Desirable: ability to configure and troubleshoot Leica GNSS and total station instruments.
  • Desirable: experience with remote data capture systems, including terrestrial and airborne solutions.
  • Desirable: experience with JavaScript, Python, LISP and ModelBuilder.
  • Desirable: experience processing digitised and field survey data during post-excavation work.
  • Desirable: familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or other drawing software.
  • Desirable: a CSCS card.
  • Must already hold the legal right to live and work in the UK, as defined by UK Visas and Immigration.
