Principal Linux Driver Engineer – Hybrid, United States
Lead Linux kernel driver and low-level networking development for HPE Slingshot interconnects. Enable high-performance communication across high-performance computing and artificial intelligence systems.

- Own the architecture, design, and development of Linux kernel drivers and low-level networking software for Slingshot products
- Define software interfaces and help shape hardware and firmware architecture for future networking technologies
- Improve networking software for performance, scalability, reliability, serviceability, and observability
- Guide products from architecture and pre-silicon development through bring-up, validation, integration, and production deployment
- Investigate and resolve complex issues spanning hardware, firmware, Linux kernel software, and large-scale system deployments
- Build telemetry, diagnostic, fault-detection, and recovery capabilities
- Partner with ASIC, hardware, firmware, validation, and system software teams
- Provide technical direction through architecture and design reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices

- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
- At least 12 years of software engineering experience, including extensive production Linux kernel driver development
- Expert proficiency in C and low-level systems software development
- Extensive background developing high-performance network drivers or Linux kernel networking subsystems
- Deep knowledge of Linux kernel internals, including networking, synchronization, scheduling, memory management, interrupts, and performance optimization
- Expert understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP, RDMA, congestion control, network performance analysis, and packet processing
- Strong knowledge of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking, including PHYs, SerDes, link training, FEC, flow control, and error detection and recovery
- Experience diagnosing complex hardware and software interactions and leading root-cause analysis across engineering disciplines
- Experience with silicon bring-up, hardware validation, and production deployment of networking products
- Proven technical leadership and ownership of large, complex software initiatives
- Preferred: experience with HPC interconnects, supercomputing environments, or large-scale AI infrastructure
- Preferred: experience with Slingshot, InfiniBand, RoCE, RDMA, or other high-performance networking technologies
- Preferred: experience with network adapters, SmartNICs, DPUs, or switch platforms
- Preferred: familiarity with Dragonfly, Clos, and Fat Tree network architectures
- Preferred: experience with congestion management, adaptive routing, fabric telemetry, observability, and fleet-scale diagnostics
- Preferred: knowledge of switch ASIC architecture, forwarding technologies, and high-speed networking infrastructure
- Preferred: experience contributing to the Linux kernel networking subsystem or upstream open source
