Supplier Development Engineer – Caterpillar, China
Lead supplier quality, audits, and defect reduction for Caterpillar genset packaging and power solutions. Office-based in Shanghai, Tianjin, or Beijing, with about 50% travel across China and APAC.
Description
- Oversee supplier quality performance, KPIs, and improvement plans.
- Contribute technical assessments during supplier selection.
- Conduct internal, third-party, and customer audits.
- Provide onsite support for production quality and zero-defect initiatives.
- Assist with factory witness and acceptance testing.
- Coordinate with dealers on onsite genset issues.
- Assist with warranty claims.
- Monitor the global supply network against quality targets.
- Identify, contain, and eliminate supplier defects.
- Use RCCA, 8D, rework, and containment plans to address defects.
- Work with business partners and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
Requirements
- Communicate effectively in English and Chinese.
- Apply problem-solving skills and understand organizational, operational, and process problem-solving methods.
- Understand process improvement and maintain a continuous improvement focus.
- Know quality management methods, tools, and techniques.
- Understand supplier management for raw materials or product components.
- Know supplier evaluation and certification practices.
- Understand package design and specifications.
- Have experience with electric power genset packaging.
- Work in the office five days per week.
- Travel for business about 50% of the time, mainly within China and APAC.
