Description

  • Lead a portfolio of technology projects and engineering teams building distributed microservices and full-stack systems
  • Develop solutions that satisfy Capital One’s regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, test new tools, and contribute to internal and external technology communities
  • Mentor engineers and support the growth of the broader engineering community
  • Work with digital product managers to deliver resilient cloud-based systems for millions of Americans
  • Build with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS services
  • Provide technical direction across teams while shaping system architecture and long-term technology strategy
  • Lead the end-to-end design and delivery of large-scale distributed and cloud-native systems
  • Partner with architects and product leaders on platform roadmaps and shared-services strategy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative discipline, such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics, or engineering
  • At least 6 years of software engineering experience, excluding internships
  • At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, cloud productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Capital One may sponsor a qualified new applicant for employment authorization
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • Preferred: 9 or more years of coding experience across at least two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, and Scala
  • Preferred: 5 or more years contributing to open-source frameworks
  • Preferred: 5 or more years working with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks
  • Preferred: 5 or more years designing synchronous and asynchronous APIs
  • Preferred: 4 or more years working with databases and database management systems
  • Preferred: 4 or more years using AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Preferred: 4 or more years working with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks
  • Preferred: 4 or more years using Git-based version control
  • Preferred: 4 or more years diagnosing technical issues in cloud environments
  • Preferred: 3 or more years mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development on technical teams
  • Preferred: 2 or more years using observability to identify and improve performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
  • Preferred: 1 or more years leading architecture reviews and influencing enterprise technical standards and methodologies
  • Preferred: 1 or more years establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams
  • Preferred: 1 or more years implementing observability and reliability practices at scale
  • Preferred: Experience with AI-powered coding tools and IDE copilots
  • Preferred: Experience shaping technology strategy at the portfolio or business-unit level
  • Preferred: Experience using interactive AI tools beyond basic code completion
  • Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional engineering initiatives or large-scale technical programs
