Senior Manager, Digital Engineering – Observability

Description

  • Set the strategy, roadmap, and operating model for the observability platform.
  • Lead and develop teams working on observability, reliability, and platform services.
  • Expand enterprise use of OpenTelemetry and standards for monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting.
  • Work with Engineering, Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, and Product teams to strengthen reliability and operational visibility.
  • Lead modernization work in automation, self-service, cloud transformation, and AI-driven operations.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, platform health measures, and engineering effectiveness metrics.
  • Oversee platform investment, vendor relationships, and capacity planning.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
  • At least 4 years building observability platforms, developer platforms, or other internal engineering infrastructure.
  • At least 3 years managing engineering teams directly, including hiring and performance management.
  • At least 3 years operating a product or platform in production at scale, including multi-cloud or multi-cluster environments.
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience defining and managing SLIs, SLOs, and reliability programs.
  • Experience leading teams using Agile or Scrum.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • A high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant work experience is accepted as an alternative.
  • Preferred: At least 3 years of experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, or New Relic.
  • Preferred: Experience with Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Preferred: Experience in cloud modernization and operational transformation.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of AIOps, AI-powered observability, and intelligent automation.
  • Preferred: Experience in a highly regulated field such as healthcare, financial services, or insurance.
