Commercial Space Designer (Contract) – Hybrid

Design 2D and 3D office furniture layouts, renderings, parts lists, and quotes for Tayco. Support customers and sales teams within Tayco’s Canadian office furniture manufacturing business.

Description

  • Deliver prompt design solutions, product recommendations, and pricing details to customers
  • Partner with sales to expand existing accounts and build new customer relationships
  • Produce approximately 90 quotes monthly and/or oversee half of a territory
  • Contact customers to collect project details, specifications, and requirements
  • Rank quotation requests by dealer tier, requested completion date, and first-in-first-out order
  • Develop 2D and 3D drawings, colour renderings, and parts lists
  • Evaluate special requests using the Engineering Decision Tree and consult Engineering on custom requirements
  • Verify drawings and parts lists for accuracy
  • Source material up-charge details from Purchasing or Engineering
  • Present completed drawings, pricing, and project details to customers
  • Suggest products that improve customer satisfaction and project profitability
  • Grow sales and average order values through cross-selling, upselling, add-on sales, and promotional products
  • Explain product terminology, features, and benefits to customers
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and Order Analysts throughout the quote-to-order process
  • Provide coverage for teammates’ orders and territories during absences
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate, or two years of experience in Interior Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • Previous project management experience is an asset
  • Ability to read, interpret, and recreate architectural drawings, floor plans, and written specifications
  • Familiarity with CET, AutoCAD, 20-20, Giza, rendering software, Microsoft Word, Excel or Lotus, and email
  • Ability to learn new software, adapt to changing conditions, and manage multiple tasks
  • Clear, courteous, and friendly communication style with strong phone, listening, spelling, and grammar skills
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and workload-prioritization skills
  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers, demonstrate leadership, and show empathy
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Understanding of basic geometry and algebra
  • Ability to use common-sense reasoning with written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions
  • Ability to troubleshoot and negotiate during complex or crisis situations
  • Knowledge of the industry, products, space planning, and the complete order process
  • Knowledge of Tayco products and finishes to support order processing
