Backend Engineer (Golang) — AMBOSS | Hybrid in Germany
Build and operate Golang backend services for AMBOSS’s medical learning and clinical decision support platform. Improve APIs, reliability, and access for physicians and medical students worldwide.
Description
- Deliver Shop-domain engineering projects from initial concept through completion
- Strengthen code health, testing practices, and long-term maintainability
- Use AI coding and agentic tools for exploration, implementation, testing, and code review
- Help shape the team’s technical direction and contribute to technology strategy
- Resolve incidents, determine root causes, and implement preventative improvements
- Work with cross-functional partners to clarify project requirements and specifications
- Respond to ad-hoc requests raised through customer support channels
- Share expertise across the AMBOSS community and support continuous learning
- Build and operate the gateway that gives medical students and clinicians worldwide access to the AMBOSS platform
Requirements
- At least 3 years of hands-on Golang experience, plus MySQL or NoSQL expertise
- Practical experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or similar, including exposure to agentic engineering workflows
- Experience across the web development lifecycle, from coding and testing to deployment and maintenance
- Exposure to requirements analysis and system design is advantageous
- Experience building or integrating GraphQL and/or REST APIs
- Experience designing relational databases
- Familiarity with SOLID principles, clean code practices, and common design patterns
- Proficiency with Git, including branching, merging, and code review workflows
- Experience with payment platforms such as Stripe or Chargebee is advantageous
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Good written and spoken English communication skills
- A collaborative, curious, proactive, analytical, solution-focused approach with a strong sense of ownership
- A valid work permit for the country of application
